FROM VIRAL SKITS TO SOUTH AFRICA: DESI BANKS TAKES HIS COMEDY GLOBAL WITH BOYZ TRIP

Desi Banks has taken his comedy from the cellphone screen to sold-out shows—and now the Atlanta comedian is making another major move with the upcoming international action-comedy Boyz Trip.

Filmed over 32 days in Cape Town, South Africa, Boyz Trip stars Banks alongside Algee Smith, Rome Flynn, Siv Ngesi and Woody McClain. Written and directed by Kyle Scott, the film follows four longtime college friends whose annual getaway unexpectedly spirals into international chaos. With their plans falling apart, the group must depend on friendship, questionable survival skills and plenty of luck to make it home safely.

For Banks, the movie represents another important step in a journey that began long before Hollywood came calling.

The former college football player originally made his name through short-form comedy videos and relatable social-media skits. His animated characters, Southern family humor and ability to turn everyday situations into comedy helped him build a loyal audience across multiple platforms.

Instead of allowing viral success to become his ceiling, Banks used it as his foundation.

He expanded into stand-up comedy, proving he could command a live stage without relying on edited clips or familiar characters. His tours have produced sold-out shows across the country, while his ticket sales have reportedly crossed the million-dollar mark. That success has allowed him to establish himself as more than a social-media comedian—he has become a legitimate touring attraction.

Banks also understands the importance of keeping his original audience connected to his growth. While filming Boyz Trip, he documented his South African experience through a three-part YouTube series. The episodes show him preparing for scenes, working through stunt coordination and embracing life away from the movie set.

During his downtime, Banks visited Cape Town communities, enjoyed the local food, danced with residents, got a fresh haircut and explored South African culture. He even turned a safari trip at Aquila Private Game Reserve into comedy after a flat tire temporarily left his group stranded.

That ability to create content anywhere remains one of his greatest strengths. Whether he is performing inside a packed venue, filming a movie overseas or joking through an unexpected situation, Banks continues finding ways to entertain while bringing his supporters along for the journey.

Boyz Trip could introduce an even wider audience to the acting range behind the humor. For Desi Banks, South Africa was more than another filming location—it was proof that the same comedy gift developed through social-media skits can travel around the world.
