L.A. RIOTS: Federal Troops Deployed to L.A. Amid Protests Over ICE Raids

What began as peaceful demonstrations escalated into violent chaos between protesters and law enforcement, prompting a response from President Trump that California officials are calling an overreach.

Mayor Karen Bass addressing the press in regard to the deployment called on by President Trump.

According to the Associated Press, the National Guard has not been deployed since 1965. However, Saturday, June 7, 2025, President Trump ordered 2000 National Guard troops to LA —without the consent of California Governor Gavin Newsom or L.A. Mayor Karen Bass, both of whom publicly condemned the move.

In response to the ICE raid of a Home Depot, which sparked the riots,

Mayor Bass said “When the President came in, he talked about arresting violent criminals, he talked about drug dens— he didn’t talk about Home Depot. “

Since the deployment,  protestors have allegedly been met with batons, pepper spray, tear gas, rubber bullets, flash bang grenades, and other crowd-control tactics, as demonstrations escalated into what appears to us on the outside as widespread unrest. However, Mayor Bass stated that the rioting is contained to just a few streets, despite the overall tension surrounding the city.

While officials are calling for calm, the city stands at a critical crossroads—caught between calls for justice and the weight of a historic federal response that hasn’t been seen in decades.

Let me know what you think in the comments below!

Was the Presidents decision to deploy the National Guard necessary, or did it only add fuel to the fire?
