A Star for the Woman Who Helped Define an Era of Black Cinema

Nia Long is officially taking her place on the Hollywood Walk of Fame—a moment fans believe should have happened years ago.

The acclaimed actress will be honored with the 2,857th star on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. PT. Her star will be dedicated in the Motion Pictures category at 6150 Hollywood Boulevard.

Variety correspondent Angelique Jackson will host the ceremony, while entertainment legend Snoop Dogg and Michael producer Graham King will appear as guest speakers.

For longtime supporters, this is more than another Hollywood ceremony. It is recognition of an actress whose beauty, talent, authenticity and cultural presence helped shape how Black women were represented on screen.

More Than a Familiar Face

Nia Long has been part of some of the most important films and television programs in modern Black entertainment.

Her performances in Boyz n the Hood, Friday, Love Jones, The Best Man, Made in America and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air made her one of the most recognizable actresses of her generation. She did not simply appear in popular projects—she helped create characters and moments that became part of the culture.

In Love Jones, Long gave audiences Nina Mosley, a layered Black woman navigating love, creativity and independence. In The Best Man franchise, she brought Jordan Armstrong to life as an ambitious media professional whose strength never erased her vulnerability. Through these roles, Long represented Black women as romantic leads, professionals, friends and fully developed human beings.

Her influence reaches beyond box-office numbers. Nia Long became part of the visual language of Black love, Black style and Black storytelling during an era when Hollywood did not always make room for those narratives.

A Career Built on Longevity

Long’s career has endured across several generations and major shifts within the entertainment industry. She successfully moved between film and television while maintaining the connection audiences developed with her early in her career.

A four-time NAACP Image Award winner, Long has continued expanding her résumé with projects including Empire, NCIS: Los Angeles, Dear White People, Fatal Affair, You People, Missing and The Best Man: The Final Chapters.

In 2026, she portrayed Jackson family matriarch Katherine Jackson in the Michael Jackson biopic Michael. She is also reuniting with Love Jones co-star Larenz Tate for Netflix’s upcoming romantic drama Don’t Ever Wonder, inspired by Maxwell’s landmark album Urban Hang Suite. Long will serve as an executive producer on the project as well.

That transition from performer to executive producer represents another important stage in her journey: moving from appearing in stories to helping shape which stories reach the screen.

Recognition That Carries Cultural Weight

Hollywood honors often arrive long after the culture has already made its decision.

For Black audiences, Nia Long has been a star for decades. Her Walk of Fame ceremony does not create her legacy—it formally acknowledges what generations of viewers already understood.

She belongs in Hollywood history.

Her recognition also serves as a reminder that longevity matters. Nia Long built a career without allowing the industry to reduce her to one character, one decade or one definition of Black womanhood. She remained relevant while protecting the dignity, warmth and authenticity that made audiences embrace her in the first place.

A star on Hollywood Boulevard is permanent, but so is the cultural impact Nia Long created long before her name touched that sidewalk.

This moment celebrates the films, the television roles, the unforgettable characters and the generations of Black women who saw pieces of themselves reflected through her work.

Congratulations to Nia Long—a true cultural icon whose star has been shining all along.
