Southern Vibes: Black Culture Takes Center Stage This Juneteenth Weekend

The South is on fire this Juneteenth, and not just from the sun. Houston and Atlanta are turning up the heat with a fusion of culture, celebration, and consciousness.

Houston’s Juneteenth Urban Takeover is setting the tone with a full weekend of grown & sexy energy—pool parties, all-white fits, DJs spinning, and vibes for days. If outside was a person, she’d definitely be there.

But it’s not just turning up—Houston’s Third Ward Bus Tour is taking folks through historic Black landmarks like Emancipation Park and Project Row Houses, while The Heritage Society’s tour hits different—showing homes once owned by formerly enslaved Black folks, telling the real stories most history books skip.

Meanwhile, South Fulton ain’t playing either. They kicked things off early with a Juneteenth festival at Wolf Creek Amphitheater and are following up with the R&B & Southern Soul Rodeo on June 21. Think food, music, culture, and community in one big Southern mix.

Whether you’re sipping something cold poolside or standing on sacred ground soaking in the past—Black joy and legacy are alive and well this weekend.

And that’s on culture.
