They Finally Caught Derrick Groves: The Last Escapee from the New Orleans Jailbreak
After almost five months on the run, the last man from that wild New Orleans jailbreak has finally been caught hiding under a house in Atlanta.
Derrick Groves, 28, was one of ten inmates who escaped from the Orleans Parish jail back in May. Ten. They literally removed a toilet, climbed through the wall, and managed to break out without anyone noticing for hours. It sounds like a movie, but it really happened.
Since then, it’s been a whole saga. One by one, they’ve been getting picked up. They were found in Louisiana, Texas, all over. Even some people who helped them got arrested, including a maintenance worker who allegedly helped mess with the plumbing.

Groves was the last one left, and apparently he’d been hiding out in Atlanta this whole time. When authorities finally found him this week, he was under a crawl space. SWAT had to use tear gas and a police dog to get him out. This dude blew a kiss to the camera while being arrested. Like, sir. You escaped through a toilet and have been living underground. Read the room.

Still, this whole situation says a lot about what’s going on behind the walls of that jail. The fact that ten people escaped…and it took months to get them all back..it just screams “system failure.” It’s not just about one guy being caught; it’s about how this even happened in the first place.
Now that they’re all back in custody, the focus is shifting to accountability. Sheriff Susan Hutson has been under fire since the escape, and folks are demanding answers. How did no one notice ten men missing overnight? And how deep did the inside help go?

One thing’s for sure though, this story isn’t over. Everyone’s relieved it’s done, but the truth is, it should’ve never gone this far.
As always, let me know what you think in the comments!
