What We Know So Far About the Brown University Shooting

Dec 15, 2025
1 min read

As of now, the recent active shooter near Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island is still out there. While a person of interest was briefly taken into custody, police later confirmed that the individual was released and is no longer considered a suspect.

Law enforcement has emphasized that the investigation is still ongoing, with local and federal agencies working together to review surveillance footage, interview witnesses, and follow up on tips from the public. Campus police increased their presence following the incident, and Brown University temporarily shifted to safety protocols while authorities assessed the situation.

They’ve  been cautious about releasing specific suspect details, stating that doing so prematurely could compromise the investigation. At this time, there is no confirmed motive and no arrests have been made.

University leadership has expressed condolences to those impacted and urged students and staff to remain vigilant while relying on official updates rather than speculation circulating online.

This remains a developing situation, and police say updates will be shared as soon as new, verified information becomes available.

Condolences go out from the Boss Talk 101 family to those impacted by the tragedy. To learn that it took place where people were studying for a final exam compacts the sadness of it all. Hopefully no other incidents occur between now and the time that this suspect is caught.
